Old Tom Genever
This recipe comes from Rutte’s handwritten recipe books and is now more than a century old. Our fifth-generation master distiller Anton Rutte made this unique creation in 1918, distilled from grain and 7 special ingredients, including orange leaves, cinnamon and wormwood. This product is a cross between a fresh, young genever and a classic gin: Old Tom gin.
ANTON RUTTE
5th GENERATION MASTER DISTILLER
Malt Wine
Percentage malt wine: 7%. Just enough for a full bodied flavor, but not too much to keep the fresh gin character.
Botanicals
Lemon, ginger, cinnamon, juniper, orange leaves, wormwood.
Taste
Fresh and fruity with hints of citrus and grain; a touch of sweetness.
Did you know
We thought that the first Rutte gins were produced in the 1930s and were surprised to find an older gin recipe in the books. The addition of a drop of malt wine makes this taste like a gin before the emergence of Dry Gin, whilst at the same time it is a genever.
